The leadership of the Bay Area Film Alliance
welcomes the news of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's recent
appointments to the San Francisco Film Office and Commission.
The Film Alliance Steering Committee wholeheartedly
endorses Mayor Newsom's appointment of Stefanie Coyote head the
film Office as its Executive Director, and has pledged to provide
future support of plans, campaigns and projects.
Moreover, the Steering Committee lauds
Mayor Newsom for once again seeking diversity and inclusiveness
in his choices for the new Film Commission.
Some of the newly-named Film Commissioners
are candidates nominated by the Film Alliance. "We are aware
that there were hundreds of nominations candidates, and we are
very happy that the Mayor has chosen several fine professionals
from among our candidates," said Jarion Monroe, Film Alliance
Chairman.
The announcement of $350,000 in City funds
to be allocated to film promotion is cause for confidence in the
Mayor's overall plan. Film Alliance Vice-chair David Hakim said,
"We've spent the last three years strategizing within the
film community, and now we are seeing much of that strategy rewarded,
as the Mayor turns to those who know the issues best members
of San Francisco's expert professional community."
